Third Place by Aaron Scholz

During the pandemic I revisited my cache of failed experiments and decided to update the naive vision of a thirtysomething singer-songwriter who had big plans for his "Third Place" record. I relearned the art of the deliberate andante, where you drag the guitars slightly and hit the bass drum right before where you think it's supposed to go and stagger your vocals so they push the beat. Being a one man band is about being good at keeping secrets and once I remembered to shut my mouth and let the takes be the takes I knew I could get to the finish line, better than an also-ran.
