Some People by 40Theeves

Track #1 - Some People
There’s a lighthouse Way out on the coast
I’ve seen it shining through a hundred year storm
Those waves tried to take it out
But it was strong
Every night since 1847
A beacon for those land starved fools
A guiding light through a foggy downpour
An angel singin’ sweet old blues
My neighbor’s house burned down to the ground
I was wonderin’ what he would do
He said I’ve never been too worried about the weather
Just catch it as it passes through
What about those pictures of your family
And the souvenirs from Timbuktu
He said I’ve never been too worried about the weather
Just catch it as it passes through, passes through
Carolina was a friend of mine
I couldn’t walk in her shoes
No matter what she was doing fine
She was strong
Her mama traded her for turpentine
She was gone like some Ma’s do
She ain’t worried ‘bout the cards they were dealin’
She played that hand a long time ago
James Musket was an old truck driver
Lost his leg to a drunk driving fool
Never stopped him from workin’ real hard
Put three daughters through medical school
Through the pain, how’d you do it ol’ buddy?
No revenge and you didn’t even sue
I saw the tunnel of the dead when I was under
heard those angels singing way too soon.
Track #2 - Friday Night Temptation
Week is done, I just got paid
Sweating and workin, now I’m in the shade
Been so fine, but that’s all done
It’s time for this here boy to have a bit of fun
Sun comes down, I’m feeling high
Make this world look me right square in the eyes
Stroll on in, order me a few
Barkeep smiles, he knows he'll make his due
Oh Yeah! It's comin' down on me
Oh Yeah! I fall on bended knee
Oh Yeah! I'm now at her mercy
Oh Yeah! It's Friday night temptation
Lose control, well, shame on me
I finally get the chance to feel a bit carefree
Tourists laugh, well, shame on you
I got the magic ticket to ol’ Khatmandu
There's hand grenades and second lines
Big chiefs dance, dressed to the nines
Voodoo doctor, Indian queens
Drawing in me in with all their dark routines
Next bar comes, soon its three
She’s in the corner got that woman spell on me
Tempts me with kisses and dirty looks
She’s got me caught I'm within her old spell book
Who’s in the right, who’s in the wrong
I was trapped right at the beginning of her song
I was lost, when night came down
Black widow spider got me all spellbound
Track #3 - Let's Pretend That It's Saturday
I don't care what time it is let's pretend that it's Saturday
I love to see your face shine in the summer sun
where did the time go I know you're the only one
but lets pretend I never saw your face before
I wanna believe that it's all brand new
The first time I came through your door
we burnt the house from roof to floor
I couldn't see anything but you
A Saturday I won't forget
I'm begging to revisit it
I need to make it all brand new
Track #4 - Major Dude and Wonder Girl
Story starts: back alley street the moon has started to glow
Major dude looks up at the sky pulls his coat against the cold
He knows that the night's the night for raising a bit of hell
So many people giving it up he don’t need any help
But it's all good
Next scene: wonder girl walks in, smile upon her face
She needs to break free tonight of the limits of time and space
She know that the night's the night for raising a little hell
So many thoughts, so many dreams ringing out like a bell
But it's all good
Heaven knows tonight’s the night when you’re livin’ here in hell
Heaven knows the good die young gonna push it right over the edge
Ain’t nothin gonna get her up but a fire to raise the dead
Ain’t nothin gonna bring him down ‘cept some lightning in the head
Track #5 - John Saw Snow
John saw snow upon the mountains
When he woke up there at dawn
A few leaps from a hundred miles away
And now he’s here to tell it all
I’m positive there are some
With enough for everyone
Be a needed or a full fledged dealer
There’s places for ‘em all
Love everyone
They all agreed and grabbed a ton
Left her weezin’ open heart and bleedin’
Not what he meant to come across
I remember a day
When I heard that old man say
Saw it clearer than an open ended mirror
There’s places for ‘em all
Old John.....They don’t see your vision
Old John.....Have faith in your mission
Old John.....While no one is watching
Old John.....Stay true to your calling
Old John.....St. Francis can see you
Old John.....Your love makes you brand new
Track #6 - Fragile Spiral
That dress you wearin', It ain’t for me
And I’ve been drinking just to feel a little peace
I see what’s comin but I can’t let it be
The fragile spiral pulling all my gravity
Tonight I'll leave my fears and make it just right
The rooms is dark and the curtains drawn
But in the morning, I know your gone
I hear your phone light up you think that I’m asleep
You said you’re workin late ain’t been there in a week
You said my head ain’t right at least we can agree
Don’t go runnin' for the door I got the key
Rain on the window, It’s comin' down in sheets
I pace the floor while the thunders boomin' deep
When you feed it, love grows like a tree
But thunders crashin' and it’s burning you and me
Track #7 - That's Alright With Me
I woke up to a cloudy sky
Way up high a lone bird fly
Does he see what I can see?
Lonely and free
I once had a woman
I thought she held the key
But winter came like it does
And that’s alright with me
Life sure ain’t easy
It ain’t no free ride
When the bird passed over me
He told me “let it slide”
There’s cream for my coffee
And friends I like to meet
We’ll go downtown and have a few
And that’s all right with me
And if I could I surely would
I’d Stand on the rock where Moses stood
But that’s not in the cards for me
And that’s alright with me
Pharaoh's army’s coming fast
And I don’t think I’m gonna last
The Red Sea’s crashing over me
And that’s alright with me
Pete and I we had us five
He claimed that he could see
The Holy Ghost makin’ a toast
And lookin’ right at me
The barmaid she was pretty
We were all brothers three
we laughed ‘cause it was easy
Pete the Ghost and Me
The lights came on way too fast
I asked the ghost to pay his tab
I blinked my eyes and cupped my ears
But the ghost had disappeared
Pete he started cryin’
Over everything we lost
But drinkin’ with a ghost ya see
Always has a cost
I grew up with the stories
Those noble-minded myths
But they’re just dreams, just like that queen
When you’re gone that’s it
But Peter swears by heaven
The blind’ll never see
Fly alone or in the flock
That’s alright with me
There's mountains in the big blue sea
Rivers flyin’ over me
A universe is in the seed
That’s stuck between my teeth
When everything is done and said
A sunset drippin’ bloody red
A moon that sends me off to bed
To sleep the great relief
And when I’m gone that might be it
Just throw me in a hallowed pit
Tamp me down with dirt and sit
And sing and slap your knee
The universe is big ya see
It’s spinnin’ out there endlessly
The little seed becomes a tree
And that’s alright with me

40Theeves are a five piece band from upstate New York. When they grow up they want to sound like if The Band, The Meters, The Allman Brothers and The Talking Heads had a baby. You may ask yourself, how do four, non-human entities even have a child? The answer is, they don't. But it's still fun to try.
